This article addresses a series of hypothesis concerning the octagonal space indicated in Guarino Guarini’s drawings of the Church of the Santissima Annunziata in Messina in his Architettura Civile. The façade of the church was completed around 1660 by Guarino Guarini and presented a «prodigiously high» bell tower at the corner, which collapsed during the 1693 earthquake and was later rebuilt shorter. The entire church was destroyed during the 1908 earthquake. Guarini’s drawings published in his treatise suggest that there must have been an octagonal chapel with columns at the corners under the tower; perhaps it was the baptistery of the church. Lithuania is situated in a highly forested Northeastern Europe area and has a variety of wooden buildings. Among the wooden structures we enumerate the religious buildings, churches and bell towers, rich of historic values, presenting different forms and sizes, a complex design and stratified construction phases. The present work aims to study this interesting topic and intends not only to analyze the architectural typology but even more the technological and structural aspects, that had suggested the most influences on building techniques during the centuries.

Il saggio analizza episodi di criticità strutturali relativi a cupole e campanili della Sicilia del secondo Settecento (chiese Madri di Ragusa, Piazza Armerina e Caltagirone). In particolare verranno esaminati i progetti ex novo e le perizie redatti dall’architetto catanese Francesco Battaglia sulle problematiche relative al comportamento statico di strutture spingenti, come le cupole e le volte, o alte e isolate, come i campanili, di cui l’architetto propone soluzioni finalizzate alla loro fortificazione e sicurezza.
